Film Adaptation

Several film adaptations have been made of Les Miserables. Allow students to watch excerpts of one of these adaptations in class and discuss the similarities and differences from the novel.

News Article

Ask students to look in their local newspaper for an article that involves some aspect of the novel and bring it to class. They will present it in front of the class and explain why it relates to the novel.

Opera Adaptation

Allow students to read the opera adaptation of Les Miserables and complete a 1-2 page paper discussing the similarities and differences in the two works. What subplots are omitted in the opera adaptation? Why?
