Lesson 1 (from Chapter One - Chapter Seven)
Objective
Students will assess Leah's character as she is introduced in the first few chapters. They will analyze how she thinks about herself, her friends, and what she wants.
Lesson
Individual Activity: Who is Leah? Write a one-page character explanation. Use at least two examples from the novel to do this.
Group Activity: Gather in small groups and answer the following questions: What does Leah like? What does she dislike? For example, she likes fanfiction and drawing. What is she insecure about? How does she think about the other characters? Write a list of the characters so far and how she feels about them. For example, how does she feel about her relationship with her mom? What does the way she think tell us about her priorities?
