Write a Mystery Story

Using the techniques from the novel, give students the opportunity to write a short story in the genre of mystery. How do they set up the characters and plot? How do they build suspense and intrigue in the reader?

Basketball Game

Give students the opportunity to go to a college or high school basketball game and write an article about the event. How does this assignment relate to the protagonists' in the novel? What do they choose to write about?

Ask students to look in their local newspaper for an article that involves some aspect of the novel and bring it to class. They will present it in front of the class and explain why it relates to the novel.
