1. Who is Landreaux?

Landreaux is a devout Catholic, who also follows traditional Native American ways. He is a man who when he kills a deer thanks one god in English and places tobacco for another god in Ojibwe. He is married to a woman even more devout than he is, and he has five children that he tries to feed and keep decent.

Landreaux had been hunting deer. He had been watching a buck for quite a while and was trying to shoot it. He had a perfect shot to kill the buck, but it moved away, and Landreaux hit Dusty instead. Dusty died.

Emmaline is described as a woman who is angular. She is sticks, elbows, and knobby knees. She has a slightly crooked nose, and striking green, wolfish eyes. Here hair and skin are light, but she tans immediately. She is a passionate mother.
