Film Adaptation

Allow students to view one of the film adaptations of Kokoro. After the viewing, ask students to participate in discussing the similarities and differences between the film and the novel.

News Article

Ask students to look in their local newspaper for an article that involves some aspect of the novel and bring it to class. They will present it in front of the class and explain why it relates to the novel.

Obituary

Write an obituary for one of the characters in the novel. What would make this person be remembered? Who would they leave behind?

Draw a Character

Have students draw their interpretation of a character from the novel. Artistic ability is not important, but their drawings must reflect the narrator’s description to some extent.
