Objective
The objective of this lesson is for students to analyze Rankine's poem "What If," which she opens the book with. Rankine writes this lengthy poem in the form of many questions, asking the reader what it means to want change; meaningful conversations about race and racism; and what it is that she herself really wants to understand.
