In introducing Jitterbug Perfume, we begin by examining its author, Tom Robbins. Today's class will establish the purpose of learning about authors, research the author's history and other works, and prepare group presentations on the information that relates to Jitterbug Perfume.
Lesson
1) Class Discussion: Introduce the novel to the class and discuss why information regarding an author can help readers achieve a deeper understanding of his or her works. Reasons for the study of writers include determining in what time period a particular author is writing, gaining a grasp of principle subject matters important to the author, establishing what style(s) the author is known for, etc.
