Indian tribe presentation
Divide the class into groups and have them choose a particular Indian tribe to research. Hold a history fair where the groups can present their tribe by telling people about their tribe, the items and tools they used, the customs they had, and any other things they find interesting about the tribe they researched. Have the students hold a discussion after the fair explaining what they learned and how important it is to learn about our nation's history.
Fort Models
Have students research one of the forts that are in the book, such as Fort Bridger or Fort Hall. Have them make a diorama representing the fort they researched. Have the student present their dioramas and tell a little about the fort they researched.
