Some interesting and strange events takes place at the onset of the story. The objective of this lesson will be to review this strange event and discuss what implications this event could have on the future of the plot.

Lesson

1) Class Discussion: Read aloud with the class the part where James comes to live with two aunts who hate him. Discuss this with the class. Why does this happen? What message is being sent here? Why is it important to know the personalities of these ladies? What could this description be foreshadowing? How did he come to live with them? What is so strange about this event?

2) Interpretation of text: Read aloud with the class the part where James says that he feels as though he is being watched. Have the students write about what they think this could mean. Is it possible to...
