Objective
The opening scene sets the tone for the remainder of the book, making it the ideal opening scene. The objective of this lesson will be to examine some of the potential foreshadowing that occurs in this scenario and to talk about some of the potential outcomes.

1) Class Discussion: Read aloud to the class the passage in the novel where Belly takes all possible precautions to avoid being in Cory's presence, who she is aware likes her and wants to get to know her better. Each student should make a brief forecast regarding what this peculiar presentation could portend. How will this affect the storyline? Do you believe it discloses too much? If not, why not? What scene evidence do you have to back up your claim? Let some volunteers read their suggestions.
