Objective
The idea of reaching the summit of Mount Everest is mind boggling, but the reader sees that the reality of such an achievement might be less than exciting. Today's objective is to talk about the expectations and how they can affect us in our experiences and in our lives.
Lesson
1. Have students make a list of the experiences in their lives that may not have been as happy as they were expecting them to be.
2. In smaller groups, have students discuss whether or not it's possible for expectations to be what we want them to be. Why?
3. As a class, have the students discuss how they think they would be affected if they were to reach the top of Mount Everest. What worries might they have? Do they think they would be elated? What might they do when they reached the top?
