Objective
The objective of this lesson is for students to explore the author’s background and personal interest in the subject matter reflected in the book. Students will analyze facts about the author and the time frame within which the collection was written. Students will discuss how these facts may have influenced the work as well as their own reading of the work.

Class Discussion: Who is the author of Intimations? When and where was she born? How old was Zadie Smith when the book was published? How was the book received by the public? Has the author written any other books? How might the author’s background influence your reading of the book?
