Lesson 1 (from Prologue - Chapter 2)
Objective
This lesson introduces students to Madeleine Blais’s nonfiction book, In These Girls, Hope Is a Muscle. Students will research the author, read the prologue, and identify and discuss the genre and narrative point of view employed in the book. In These Girls, Hope Is a Muscle details the struggles, team relationships, and successes of the Amherst Lady Hurricanes, a high school girls’ basketball team. In the Prologue, author Madeleine Blais describes her connection to one of the players on the team and how their interaction led Blais to write the book.
