Objective
Objective: Act 1, Scene 1 | Act 1, Scene 2. In this section of the play, we are introduced to the main characters and learn the central focus of the story. In this lesson, we discuss the use of exposition.
1) Group Activity: As a class, develop a working definition of the term "exposition" and state how exposition is used in Act 1, Scene 1.
2) Class Discussion: Ask students to discuss the use of exposition in the opening of the play. What information is integral to going forward with the story? Are there any parts of the exposition that we as an audience do not need?
3) Partner Activity: The location and era of the play are integral to the story. What exposition in Act 1 Scenes 1 and 2 address the location and era of the play?
