Objective
The students will understand the setting of the story.
The setting of the story is modern day in New York City. So far, part of the story takes place at an Upper East Side school, while other parts take place on the Upper West Side and in Brooklyn.
Lesson
Class Discussion: Have the students answer the following questions: What is the setting of the story? What time period is it? What clues lead you to this conclusion?
Small Group Activity: Split the students up into small groups. Have the students choose one location within the larger setting to discuss. They should then answer the following questions: What is the location you have chosen? What is the significance of this location? What is the connection of this location to the larger setting of the story?
Individual Activity: Have the students focus in on the descriptive language surrounding...
