Objective
Objective: The idea of a journey is a common occurrence in young adult novels. With a journey comes challenges, problems, and chances to become something great. Today's objective is to talk about the idea of a journey, what this means, and how it might affect the main character.
1. Have each student create a definition for a journey as he/she sees it in his/her own life and in the books he/she has read.
2. In smaller groups, have students discuss whether they think everyone has to go on a journey at some point in their lives. Why or why not?
3. As a class, have the students decide whether they think journeys are always necessary in order to teach important lessons. Why or why not? What kinds of lessons do journeys seem to teach those who take those journeys?
4. Homework: Have students write about a particular journey...
