Chapter Chats Podcast
Before the class begins to read the book, have each student choose a number between 1 and 66. The number correlates to the individual chapters in the book. Each student will take that chapter as his/her own chapter to thoroughly digest and understand. Throughout the reading of the book, (weekly or biweekly) the class will hold "Chapter Chats," sort of like a podcast. Each student prepares a podcast-type presentation to the class. Chapter Chats might include an interview with one of the people in the book played by other students, research about the differences between Zimbabwe and the United States, questions submitted by the class members, mention about other books about Africa, discussion of African food, etc.
This activity could be modified depending on the class size and personality. The teacher might elect to have each student select two or three numbers, or may distribute numbers...
