• In the Epigraph, a first-person narrator recalls that the last thing they remember is standing on the edge of a clearing looking up at the full yellow moon.
• They could hear crows.
• Now the narrator realizes they should have listened to the crows, “anything that when gathered is called a murder is bound to speak prophecy” (1).
• In Chapter 1: “Proof of Life, French,” French dreams about his brother.
• They are kids and the same age as when he last saw him.
• In the dream they are in the tree house and French tries to speak and warn Mitch that the Recruiters are coming, but he cannot speak.
• In the dream, the world outside the tree house speeds up.
• French sees a field, then towns and highways...
