Lesson 1 (from Part I (Chapters 1 - 9))
Objective
The objective of this lesson is for students to explore the author’s background and other works of both fiction and non-fiction. Students should be able to explain what sets Hunger - an intensely personal account of the author’s sexual assault and subsequent lifelong struggle with extreme obesity - apart from the author’s other published work. Students should also be able to identify one core fact from the author’s biography and explain how it affects her actions in Hunger.

What are some of the characteristics that she feels are most central to her identity and the way the world perceives her, as described in Hunger?
