Objective
The objective of this lesson is for students to analyze the meaning of Wilma's story about the One-Armed Sister. Wilma, grandmother to the teenage Lala, is increasingly concerned about Lala's staying out at night and potentially doing things that will get her in trouble as she grows into a young woman. The story of the One-Armed Sister is meant to discourage Lala from disobeying Wilma and going out to do more things socially on her own. In reality, Lala feels so suffocated and unloved that she is willing to risk many kinds of consequences in order to escape from her grandmother's and grandfather's house.
