· Dicey’s siblings ask her why they are stopped.
· James is ten, Maybeth is nine, and Sammy is six.
· Dicey has no idea why they are stopped there.
· Their father left them years ago, and their mother recently lost her job.
· They were on their way from the rundown house they lived in on the beach in Provincetown, Massachusetts, and going to their mother’s aunt Cilla’s house in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
