Objective

A Noiseless Flash

Dr. Fujii has 30 rooms for his patients and their kinfolk, because according to Japanese custom, when a person falls sick and goes to a hospital, one or more members of his family go and live there with him to care for him.

The objective of this lesson is to learn more about the Japanese family traditions.

Lesson

1. Divide the class into groups of three or four and require each group to research several Japanese family traditions and have them discuss the positives and negatives they believe are associated with these traditions.

2. Have each student in the class write a paragraph that compares and contrasts a particular Japanese tradition to that of an American tradition and have them present it to the class in a five minute presentation.
