Maggie Bradford is hiding under the porch with her three year old, Jennie when Phillip finds her and attempts to kill her.

Lesson

1) Initiate a class discussion into the issue of spousal abuse. What levels of abuse constitute a reaction that would be classified as justifiable homicide? How do children involved in this situation complicate the issues?

2) Break the class into groups. List the different kinds of spousal abuse that might justify a life ending response. How can a woman kill her husband when there are so many agencies available to abused women and children? Why might these options not have been likely for someone like Maggie?
