Prologue and Chapter 1

• In the Prologue, Jarrett and his grandfather are driving together.

• They turn into the City of Worcester: Hope Cemetery.

• Jarrett’s grandfather has Jarrett get into the driver’s seat, and he teaches Jarrett how to drive.

• Jarrett has trouble pressing the brakes too hard.

• While they drive, Jarrett’s grandfather tells him jokes.

• The narration switches to Jarrett’s thoughts as he thinks about his grandparents and their driving habits and how complicated his life is.

• He is looking forward to being able to drive so he does not have to get rides from his aunts, Lynn and Holly.

• As far as his mother, he stopped counting on her a long time ago.

• They stop the car by Grandfather’s parents’ gravestones.
