The Dune Chronicles and series is one of the best-selling science fiction series of all time. "Heretics of Dune" is the fifth book in the series. In order to fully understand the book, it is vital for students to have background information on previous events in the series and the characters present. The objective of this lesson is to give students appropriate background information to aid in their understanding of the novel.

Lesson

1) Small Group Activity: Divide the class into groups of 3 to 4 students. The instructor provides brief summaries of the previous four Dune books. Each group creates a list of key events and people present in the summaries that the group thinks will be important in "Heretics of Dune."
