The objective of this lesson is understanding the juxtaposition of events in the Prologue to the unfolding of the main characters' story in Chapter 1.

Lesson

1. Discuss as a class how the Prologue introduces the two main characters, as well as the tension that moves the plot. What is happening in the scene? What do you know of Paige, the young mother? What do you know of her husband's personality based on how he treats his wayward wife? Where do you think this scene falls into the scheme of the story of Paige and Nicholas? What could this foreshadow?

2. Make a timeline for Paige's life as it is revealed in this first chapter. How old was she when her mom left? What happened to her in high school? When did she leave home? What happened after she came to Cambridge...
