Objective
The objective of this lesson is for students to explore the author’s background and personal interest in the subject matter reflected in the novel.
Lesson
Class Discussion: Who is the author of Hamnet? Where is she from? What year was the novel published? How was this work received by the public? What other works has the author written? How might the author’s background influence your reading of the book?
Small Group Activity: Divide students into small groups and ask students to compile a list of facts about the author, encouraging them to include information that impacts the stories, themes, and characters. Regroup and ask students to share their facts. Write a list on the board so it is visible to all students.
Individual Activity: Choose one fact about the author that you think is most important to understand in reading the novel. Describe how...
