· Chapter 1 in the main text opens with Ugwu rehearsing his aunty’s comments regarding her employer and musing on his disbelief of them as he prepares for a life away from his old village.
· His progress is described, along with his aunty, as he accompanies her.
· More admonitions from Ugwu’s aunty follow as they are admitted to the residence of their employer, and Ugwu’s aunty introduces him.
