• Hag-Seed opens on March 13, 2003, with a script in which an audience is settling into a theater where a film screening is happening. The house lights are dimming.
• The film begins with credits saying the play is being performed by the Fletcher Correctional Players.
• The play opens an announcer introducing the storm that opens the Tempest; the script calls for stock footage from various places, including the Weather Channel and ocean waves.
• The play begins, and the Boatswain and Sailors are lamenting the strength of the storm, and predicting that they will be drowned; the sailors speak in rhyme closer to modern rap music than to the Shakespearean language of the Tempest.
• Voices from off screen insist that they are royalty, then...
