· “Graceful Burdens” begins with a description of a lending library in which patrons check out babies rather than books.
· The library includes “a card catalog with information about each baby” (3).
· Information such as where the baby is from, the baby’s name and age, and “where they would be sent when they reached the age of three” (3) is included along with a picture.
· When they turn three, babies are sent to orphanages, “pharmaceutical companies or the CDC or the government for reasons no one liked to contemplate” (3).
· The 7th floor of the Omaha Public Library is the baby floor.
· Babies have their own crib and a small play area.
· Patrons can sit on the single rocking chair to hold a baby...
