James Bond sits in Miami Airport drinking bourbon and waiting for his flight to New York.

The aim of this lesson is to examine Bond's character.

Lesson

1) Class discussion. What do the students think Bond looks like? What is Bond's character background? What does this chapter say about Bond's character and how does it express it? What do the students think are Bond's motivations for being a Secret Service agent? What influence has Bond's character had on popular culture? How different is Bond's character in the book from Bond's character in the films?

2) Ask the students to write Bond's character background.

3) Ask the students to develop a scenario that puts Bond into trouble and swap their scenario with someone else. The aim is then to think how Bond's character would escape from that scenario.
