1. Where does the story open, and what is happening?
The story opens in the workhouse THE MAWS OF HELL. A Vat of Lunch has been delivered and is being doled out to the workers, who are dressed as various kinds of ghouls. The eldest of the ghouls complains that the eldest should be served first.
2. Describe the Room.
The Room is where the workers take their breaks. It is identical to the workhouses except that instead of themed decor it has a large open "plain" with a fake meadow and stream, an area for bowling, vending machines, a dining area, and small private areas for the workers to stow their things and sleep.
3. Explain the etiquette that governs how workers react to others "mating" in the Room.
Many workers "mate" while in the Room. It is considered polite to pretend not to notice this, even if forced to step over a couple due to crowded conditions in the Room--unless you know the people who are having sex. If you know them, you are expected to politely cheer them on.
