• He had barely turned before two bullets hit him and he fell hard, hitting the snowy ground.
• The narrator’s Ma is running, wailing.
• A policeman holds her back.
• Another policeman is standing over the narrator, murmuring, “It’s a kid, it’s a kid” (3).
• Ma is struggling, gasping like she cannot breathe...
