Hunter S. Thompson (1937 - 2005) was an American journalist and author, and is credited as the creator of Gonzo journalism, a style of reporting where reporters involve themselves in the action to such a degree that they become central figures of their stories. Generation of Swine: Tales of Shame and Degradation in the '80s contains 100 of Thompson's columns from the San Francisco Examiner, which discuss the politics and culture of the 1980s, with significant coverage of the Iran-Contra Affair.
