Funny in Farsi: A Memoir of Growing Up Iranian in America relates the story of Firoozeh Dumas, whose family emigrated from Abadan, Iran, to Whittier, California in the 1970s when she was seven years old. The memoir was on the SF Chronicle and LA Times bestseller lists and was a finalist for the PEN/USA award in 2004. In this lesson, students are introduced to the book and will research and discuss its author, Firoozeh Dumas.
