Objective

"Fudge-a-Mania" is a coming-of-age story, a story about growing up. The objective of this lesson is to examine this genre.

Lesson

1) Explain to the class what a coming-of-age story is. Ask each student to think of an example of a coming-of-age story and share the example with the class. Discuss each example and what makes it a coming-of-age story. Based on this discussion, discuss what students might expect from "Fudge-a-Mania" as a coming-of-age story.

2) Break students up into pairs. Have each pair write a definition of a coming-of-age story and a description of what characteristics the main character of a coming-of-age story should have. Have each pair compare their description to what they know of Peter. Have pairs share their definitions and ideas with the class for discussion.
