Objective
The prelude introduces the author, Thomas Friedman. Since the book is the author's reports and his understandings of the events and peoples, it is important to know something about this man. The objective of this lesson is to learn about the author.
Lesson
1. As a class, make a timeline of the author's life described in this chapter. This should be done on a long sheet of paper that can be attached to the wall or board for reference as the book is read. Then divide the timeline into various periods - such as his youth, his schooling, etc. - perhaps coloring the background different colors or in some other way distinguishing the time periods. As the book is read there may be things the class would like to add to the timeline.
