Section 1: Chapter One, ("Nick") through Chapter Three, ("The Question")

• The following version of this book was used to create this Lesson Plan: Clements, Andrew. Frindle. Atheneum Books for Young Readers, 1998. First Aladdin Paperbacks Edition.

• Chapter One, "Nick," begins with a characterization of Nick as sui generis: not one of the "really bad kids," "really smart kids," or "really good kids." Nick "deserved a list all his own" (1).

• Nick has "plenty of ideas" and may or may not be a troublemaker (1).

• When he is in third grade, he persuades everyone in Miss Deaver's class to turn the room into a tropical island in the middle of a New Hampshire February.

• It starts small, but as on subsequent days his classmates and Miss Deaver get more and more caught up in Nick's plan, it grows out of control and causes the principal to intervene.
