Lesson 1 (from Part I (Before We Begin - Chapter 8))
Objective
The objective of this lesson is for students to analyze Frank's relationship with his father, Mr. Li. Frank's father is a hard-working Korean-born man who spends long hours at his shop, known to Frank's family as "The Store." Mr. Li speaks broken English and Frank finds it difficult to connect on a meaningful level with his father. Nonetheless, Frank loves his father and knows his father wants the best for him - even if Mr. Li sometimes seems insular, old-fashioned, and even a bit racist.
