Bake a Cake from an Appalachian Recipe

Use one of the recipes in the General Store chapter of Foxfire 9 to bake a tea cake, lemon cake, or other cheap cake. Bring your cake to share with the rest of the class.

Be a Photographer

The Foxfire books contain photographs of the interviewees and of the Appalachian handicrafts and artwork they describe. Find a relative or friend who does handicrafts of some kind and take photos of that friend and his or her crafts and art. Share your photos with the rest of the class.

Conduct an Interview

Conduct an oral interview with one of your grandparents about your family and cultural heritage similar to the interviews the Foxfire staff conduct with Appalachians about their cultural heritage. Share the results of the interview with the rest of the class.
