Be a Photographer

"Foxfire 8" books are filled with photographs of the interviewees and of the Appalachian handicrafts and artwork they describe. Find a relative or friend who does handicrafts of some kind and take photos of the person with their crafts and art. Share your photos with the rest of the class.

Conduct an Interview

Conduct an oral interview with one of your grandparents about your family and cultural heritage, similar to the interviews the Foxfire staff conducts with Appalachians about their cultural heritage. Share the results of the interview with the rest of the class.

Cook an Appalachian Soul Food Meal

Cook an Appalachian soul food meal like the one Anna Tutt describes in "Foxfire 8" that includes collard greens, baked sweet potatoes or sweet potato pie and cornbread. Bring your meal to share with the rest of the class.
