Objective

Introduction to the Book and Author:

Today's class is an introduction to Four Plays by Eugene Ionesco. The students are given an introductory look at the playwright, his style, and his works and will research the biography of his career. Students will also discuss the plays to be studied and what is expected over the course of the lesson plan.

Lesson

1) Class Discussion: Introduce the book and its author to the class. Four Plays by Eugene Ionesco includes The Bald Soprano, The Lesson, Jack, or The Submission, and The Chairs--all of which are one-acts. Eugene Ionesco (1909-1994) was a Romanian-French playwright and one of the forerunners of the Absurdist movement. The four plays in the collection are all Absurdist in style and philosophy, which will be discussed at length in the following lesson.
