Objective
The objective of this lesson is for students to analyze Katherine's first meetings with Michael in Chapter 1. Katherine thinks Michael looks attractive and interesting when she meets him at Sybil's New Year's Eve party, but when he tries talking to her, she finds herself acting combatively towards him. It is only later when her best friend Erica observes that she thinks Katherine likes Michael that Katherine admits this truth to herself. When Michael comes back to Sybil's the next day in order to see Katherine, Katherine finds that she is happy he manufactured a reason to see her again.
