Objective
Ecstasy in shamanic forms is different than what Western culture has started to believe an ecstatic form is. The objective of this lesson is to take a closer look at the shamanic version of ecstasy.
Lesson
1) Initiate a class discussion on the shamanic form of ecstasy. How does it differ from what the Western world has considered an "ecstatic state?"
2) Have each student explain in a paragraph or more what shamanic ecstasy is. In what ways can it be triggered? What is the point of achieving this state?
3) In groups of two or three, research and discuss the bodies reaction to psychoactive drugs, as these are proclaimed to be the easiest access to the ecstatic state. What kinds of things happen in the body? What kinds of alterations occur within the brain?
