Objective

Part 1: Prologue and Chapters 1-2- In the Prologue, the author tells the reader that the following story is true and she has changed the names and places to protect the innocent people involved. This declaration causes the reader to look at this story more critically and helps them relate to the characters better. This lesson will discuss the thought of the story being true.

Lesson

1. Group Activity: Have the class split into groups of four and create a list of ways the knowledge that this story is true will impact the way you view the book and its characters. After your group completes the list, have one member share your findings with the rest of class.
