Extra Reading

Read another work by Ivan Sergeevich Turgenev. The students should take note on the style similarities and differences. Ask the students to present a report on the book to the class.

Interview

Write a list of interview questions for any character in the book. Have one person play the journalist and the other the character. Ask questions about their lives, loves and emotions in relation to the book. Have the students present their interview to the class.

Photo Collage

Create a photo collage of events that occur in the book or are symbolic of events in the book. The collages should be presented to the class.

Letters to Zinaida

Write letters to Zinaida from the point of view of one of her suitors or write a letter from Zinaida to a suitor. Make sure it is clear which suitor you are writing as or to.
