Objective
The objective of this lesson is for students to explore the author’s background. Students will discuss facts about the author that are included in the book and explore her other works. Students will consider what elements of the author’s background might impact the novel.
Lesson
Class Discussion: Who is the author of Fire on the Mountain? When was she born? How old was she when the book was published? Where does she live? Has the author written any other books? How might the author’s background influence your reading of the book?
Small Group Activity: In small groups, have students compile a list of facts about the author based on her biography and list of other works in the book. Encouraging students to include information that impacts the novel’s themes and characters. Regroup and ask students to share their facts, writing the lists...
