Chapter One:
· The novel is told from the first-person perspective of the narrator, Felix Love, and uses the present tense.
· As the novel begins, Felix and his best friend, Ezra Patel, take the subway in order to meet a group of classmates for a group project.
· Felix regards his best friend and considers Ezra’s effortless style and Klimt tattoo.
· They have just left Ezra’s Brooklyn apartment, where Felix often stays.
· Ezra lives alone in his own apartment closer to school, the rent paid by his wealthy parents, who are “stereotypical Manhattan elite” (7).
· Despite the fact that it is June—Pride month—the two are still in school, as they are participating in a summer program for the arts.
