Objective
John McCain came from a line of military men. The objective of this lesson is to focus on and explore his lineage in relation to the wars.
Lesson
1. Make a family tree for John McCain.
2. Using this book and external research, list all the wars John McCain and his ancestors were in. Write down all the details you find relating to their positions in the wars.
3. Discuss how his family history might have influenced John McCain's formative years. Why did he choose a military life for himself? How was he similar to his ancestors? How was he different?
Homework - Find articles written by second or third generation soldiers or interview one that you know. Compare their situations and attitudes to John McCain. Write a few paragraphs comparing and contrasting the military members to John McCain.
