Lesson 1 (from Prologue)

Objective

Francisco de Almagro knows he is going to die and has to do so in a way where he can remain undisturbed. Despite dizziness and a loss of blood, he heads for a site that is considered holy by the Incan tribes.

The objective of this lesson is to better understand religion and its affect on the Incan tribe and on the Dominican priest.

Lesson

1) Initiate a class discussion on religion having its own reverences. What do the students know regarding Inca and Catholic religions?

2) Break the class into groups of two or three and have them research how the Incan and Catholic religions compare. How are they different? In what fundamental ways would a Dominican priest be different from an Incan shaman?
